BOYS

The Chelsea High School boys’ basketball team fell to John Carroll Catholic, 49-47, following a basket by the Cavs with 11 seconds remaining in its final game in the Hornets’ Thanksgiving tournament Nov. 24.

The Hornets had one last opportunity to tie the game, but junior guard Jake Ganus lofted a shot toward the rim with his back on the floor and senior guard D.J. Washington’s putback attempt at the buzzer rimmed out.

Ganus, who was named to the all-tournament team, led Chelsea (2-2) with 28 points.

D.D. Washington added 15 points. D.J. Washington chipped in four points to round out the scoring for Chelsea.

Briarwood defeats Hueytown in final tournament game

The Briarwood Christian School boys’ basketball team capped the Chelsea Thanksgiving tournament Nov. 24 with a 53-40 win over Hueytown.

Jason Laatsch led the Lions (4-1) with 19 points.

Nathan Fincher added 10 points. Justin Bice chipped in seven points.

Luke Collins was named to the all-tournament team.

Pelham falls to Tuscaloosa County in tournament

The Pelham High School boys’ basketball team fell to Tuscaloosa County, 36-30, in its final game in the Chelsea Thanksgiving tournament Nov. 24.

Xavier Lacey led the Panthers (0-4) with 18 points on 7-of-9 field goals. Lacey also grabbed seven rebounds.

Alec Rash added six points.

Calera defeats Spain Park in tournament opener

The Calera High School boys’ basketball team defeated Spain Park 63-58 in its opening game at the Sneaky Pete’s Rebel Classic at Vestavia Hills.

Deondre Haynes led the Eagles (2-0) with 17 points.

Jeremy Hyde added 15 points.

Mitchell Holt led Spain Park (1-2) with 14 points.

Robby Prater added 12 points.

GIRLS

Pelham ends tournament with loss to Tuscaloosa County

The Pelham High School girls’ basketball team ended its Thanksgiving tournament Nov. 24 with a 40-35 loss to Tuscaloosa County.

Erin Whitman led the Panthers (0-3) with nine points.

Thompson defeats Paul Bryant in final tournament game

The Thompson High School girls’ basketball team defeated Paul Bryant 53-47 in the Warriors’ final game in the Pelham Thanksgiving tournament Nov. 24.

KaDeisha Stowes, who was named to the all-tournament team, led the Warriors (4-2) with 21 points in the victory.

Rachel Lawley added 10 points.

Briarwood downs Pleasant Grove in tournament

The Briarwood Christian School girls’ basketball team defeated Pleasant Grove 80-21 in the Lions’ final game in the Pelham Thanksgiving tournament Nov. 24.

Anna Handlin led the Lions (5-3) with 14 points.

Cara Medders added 12 points. Meredith Botes, Abbie Cutcliffe and Sarah Ann Johnston contributed 10 points each.

Spain Park defeats DAR in tournament opener

The Spain Park girls’ basketball team defeated DAR 50-36 in its opening game at the Snead State Community College Thanksgiving tournament Nov. 24.

Colby Ryan led the Jaguars (3-1) with 17 points. Ryan added nine rebounds.

Jessica Freeman added 14 points. Kelsie Williams chipped in six points.
