Joan Elizabeth “Joy” Killingsworth

Calera

Joan Elizabeth “Joy” Killingsworth, daughter of Steve and Joan Killingsworth, born on Oct. 10, 1976, passed away at home Friday, Nov. 26, 2010 in Calera, at the age of 34. She was a lifelong resident of Calera.

“May The Work I’ve Done Speak For Me.”

Joy was educated at Calera Christian School and Wallace Community College, where she received a degree in Computer Programming.  For numerous years, Joy worked at Rite Aid Pharmacy on Valleydale as a shift manager and she was much loved by many of her co-workers and customers.

Joy was a lifetime member of Sixteenth Street Baptist Church of Calera, where she taught Sunday school and children’s church. For many years she also volunteered at Calera Christian School and Awanas. Joy loved and was loved by children of all ages.

It can be said Joy was a true servant of the Lord. She dedicated her life loving and serving others. She saw only the good in others and prayed for all. Her light and sweet spirit will be sorely missed by all who knew her. She loved her family dearly, and she was the joy of their lives. She loved all of God’s little creatures and her pets were like her children. She had two dogs, Millie and Bandit and nine cats, too numerous to name. Her dream was to someday own a large farm where she could take in all the unwanted and unloved dogs and cats and give them a loving home.

Joy is preceded in death by her grandfathers, Cecil (Paps) Killingsworth of Calera, Dr. Robert (Grandpaps) Campbell of Decatur and Kyle Hardin of Shelby Shores. She is also preceded in death by her two aunts, Dawn and Rhonda Campbell of Decatur.

Joy is survived by her parents, Steve and Joan Killingsworth of Calera; one sister, Tricia (Steven) Littleton of Jemison; her grandmothers, Beth (Grandmama) Hardin of Shelby Shores, Betty (Nan) Killingsworth of Calera and Peggy (Grandmama Peggy) of Decatur; aunts and uncles Greg and Judy Killingsworth of Calera, Wes Hardin of Shelby Shores, Mickey and Rob Browning of Chelsea and Clay and Lisa Campbell of Dothan; and cousins, Boomer and Andy Browning, Ashley Killingsworth, Gus Campbell and Megan Hardin.

Her family received friends Wednesday, Dec. 1, at Sixteenth Street Baptist Church in Calera and a Christian burial service will be held at 2 p.m. at the church on Thursday, Dec. 2. Pastor Nick Wells and Pastor Andy Browning officiating. Burial will follow at Shelby Memory Gardens Cemetery.  Rockco Funeral Home, Montevallo directing.  Please share online condolences at Rockcofuneralhomes.com.
