High school basketball roundup: Panthers top Montevallo in first win

The Pelham High School boys’ basketball team picked up its first win of the season Dec. 3 following a 73-28 win over Montevallo.

Xavier Lacey led the Panthers (1-5) with 13 points.

Tyler Minyard added 11 points. Willie Simpson chipped in 10 points.

Rashard Jones led the Bulldogs (0-1) with eight points in their season opener.

Calera defeats Thompson

The Calera High School boys’ basketball team defeated Thompson 75-69 on Dec. 3.

Deondre Haynes led the Eagles (6-1) with 27 points.

Titus Adams added 17 points. Jeremy Hyde chipped in 15 points.

Demarcus Threatt led Thompson (6-2) with 22 points.

Ryan Coleman and Jaylon Jones contributed 10 points each.

Briarwood defeats Vincent

The Briarwood Christian School boys’ basketball team picked up a 48-39 win over Vincent on Dec. 3.

Jason Laatsch led the Lions (6-1) with 15 points.

Keyon Wallace led Vincent (6-2) with 18 points.

Spain Park tops Shades Valley

The Spain Park High School boys’ basketball team edged Shades Valley 70-65 on Dec. 3.

Rembert Martin led the Jaguars (5-3) with 20 points.

Mitchell Holt added 18 points. Robby Prater chipped in 11 points.

Oak Mountain falls to Woodlawn

The Oak Mountain High School boys’ basketball team fell to Woodlawn 52-43 on Dec. 3.

Colton McGriff led the Eagles (3-4) with 13 points in the loss.

Chelsea defeats Chilton County

The Chelsea High School boys’ basketball team defeated Chilton County 69-59 on Dec. 3.

D.D. Washington led the Hornets (4-2) with 21 points.

Jake Ganus added 17 points. D.J. Washington finished with 15 points and 10 rebounds.

Indian Springs falls to Altamont in overtime

The Indian Springs School boys’ basketball team fell to Altamont 59-55 in overtime Dec. 3.

Charlie Simpson led Indian Springs (4-3) with 20 points.

Hart Wilson added 11 points.

Kingwood falls to Prattville Christian

The Kingwood Christian School boys’ basketball team fell to Prattville Christian 64-31 on Dec. 3.

Daniel Fillingim led the Lions (3-4) with 11 points.

Cornerstone Christian falls to Bessemer Academy

The Cornerstone Christian School boys’ basketball team fell to Bessemer Academy 57-50 on Dec. 3.

Kendall Moore led the Chargers with 29 points.

Hagan Joiner added nine points.

Coosa Valley edges Ellwood Christian in first win

The Coosa Valley Academy boys’ basketball team edged Ellwood Christian 45-44 to pick up its first win of the season Dec. 3.

Austin Rich, who hit the game-clinching free throw with 10 seconds left, led the Rebels (1-3) with 15 points.

John Bullen added 11 points.

Evangel Christian tops Rock Christian

The Evangel Christian School boys’ basketball team picked up a 60-33 win over Rock Christian on Dec. 3.

Andrew Frazier led the Lightning (4-0) with 16 points.

Marcus Johnson added 13 points.

Hope Christian falls to East Central

The Hope Christian School boys’ basketball team fell to East Central 58-54 on Dec. 3.

Terrance Moore led the Eagles (2-2) with 21 points. Moore also grabbed seven rebounds.

Pete Thomason added 16 points and a team-high eight rebounds. Seth Burnham and Blake Thomas chipped in six points each.

GIRLS

Pelham defeats Montevallo in first win

The Pelham High School girls’ basketball team picked up its first win of the season Dec. 3 following a 52-47 win over visiting Montevallo.

Erin Whitman led the Panthers (1-4) with 13 points.

Sydney Days added 12 points.

Amber Cardwell led Montevallo (2-1) with 29 points. Cardwell also grabbed eight rebounds and blocked two shots.

Briarwood Christian defeats Vincent

The Briarwood Christian School girls’ basketball team defeated visiting Vincent 70-25 on Dec. 3.

Cara Medders led the Lions (7-3) with 20 points.

Anna Handlin and Abbie Cutcliffe chipped in 10 points each. Handlin also grabbed eight rebounds.

Kiara Cohill led the Yellow Jackets (1-5) with 20 points.

Oak Mountain falls to Woodlawn

The Oak Mountain High School girls’ basketball team dropped its first game of the season Dec. 3 following a 54-36 loss to Woodlawn.

Lay Watts led the Eagles (6-1) with 18 points.

Watts also grabbed nine rebounds in the loss.

Spain Park defeats Shades Valley

The Spain Park High School girls’ basketball team picked up a 47-40 win over Shades Valley on Dec. 3.

Jessica Freeman led the Jaguars (6-2) with 11 points.

Katherine Boswell added 10 points.

Chelsea tops Chilton County in first win

The Chelsea High School girls’ basketball team picked up its first win of the season Dec. 3 following a 72-26 win over Chilton County.

Destiny Winters led the Hornets (1-4) with 17 points.

Amanda Mock added 14 points and 13 rebounds.

Indian Springs falls to Altamont

The Indian Springs School girls’ basketball team fell to Altamont 29-27 on Dec. 3.

Andrea Mayo led Indian Springs (3-3) with 19 points.

Ambria Hardy added six points.

Kingwood falls to Prattville Christian

The Kingwood Christian School girls’ basketball team fell to visiting Prattville Christian 58-37 on Dec. 3.

Whitney Gillespie led the Lions (1-5) with 20 points.

Gillespie also grabbed 16 rebounds.

Cornerstone defeats Bessemer Academy

The Cornerstone Christian School girls’ basketball team defeated Bessemer Academy 55-24 on Dec. 3.

Megan Atchison led the Chargers with 14 points. Atchison also grabbed 11 rebounds.

Kailey Goodwin added 12 points.

Coosa Valley defeats Ellwood Christian

The Coosa Valley Academy girls’ basketball team recorded a 60-43 win over Ellwood Christian on Dec. 3.

Lauren Archer led the Rebels (3-1) with 21 points. Archer also grabbed 11 rebounds.

Kaylan Rich contributed 12 points and 10 rebounds. Jordan Smiley chipped in 11 points.
