Thompson wrestlers defeat Minor

The Thompson High School wrestling squad defeated Minor 73-6 in a match between the two teams Dec. 7.

The Warriors won 13 of the 14 individual matches.

Conner Gilson of Thompson pinned Jerein Harris of Minor in the 103-pound match. The Warriors’ Brandon Belser earned a 12-2 major decision in his 119-pound match against Minor’s Hunter Parker.

Thompson’s DeMario Haynes picked up a 7-0 decision over Brandon Tamburelli in the 125-pound match. Hayden Franklin of Thompson pinned Roman Sanchez of Minor in the 135-pound match.

Chris Lloyd of Thompson pinned the Minor’s Khalil Jefferson in the 140-pound match. John Austin (J.A.) Jones pinned Minor’s Nick Holman in the 145-pound match.

Josh Gillaspie of Thompson pinned Minor’s Jonathan Hagler in the 160-pound match. The Warriors’ Jesse Masters pinned Micah Davis of Minor in 189-pound action.

Jimmy Miller of Thompson pinned Shiver Winchester of Minor in the 215-pound match. Thompson heavyweight David Capers pinned Terrance Burts of Minor.

Austin Gould, Hunter Gatlin and Trey Berryhill each won by forfeit.

Cahman Holder of Thompson was pinned by Minor’s Tre King in the 171-pound match.

The Warriors also defeated Sumiton Christian 84-0 in the dual meet at Minor. Five Thompson wrestlers earned victories in individual matches.

Gilson pinned Sumiton Christian’s Chase Warren in the 103-pound match. The Warriors’ Brewer Gilliland pinned Matthew McGouch of Sumiton Christian in 135-pound action.

Berryhill pinned Sumiton Christian’s Hadyn Valenta in the 152-pound match. Masters pinned Jacob Self of Sumiton Christian in the 189-pound match.

Miller pinned Casey Werner of Sumiton Christian in the heavyweight match.

Gould, Belser, Haynes, Franklin, Lloyd, Jones, Gillaspie, Holder and Capers each won by forfeit.
