High school basketball roundup: Calera tops Dora on home court

The Calera High School boys’ basketball team picked up an 81-51 win over Dora on its home court Dec. 11.

Ronnie Clark led the Eagles with 21 points.

Deondre Haynes added 11 points.

Briarwood Christian defeats McAdory

The Briarwood Christian School boys’ basketball team defeated McAdory 54-38 in high school basketball action Dec. 11.

Jason Laatsch led the Lions (9-2) with 28 points.

Luke Collins finished with four points and a team-high 10 assists.

Chelsea defeats Jemison

The Chelsea High School boys’ basketball team picked up a 47-42 win over Jemison on Dec. 11.

D.D. Washington led the Hornets (6-4) with 16 points. Washington also grabbed eight rebounds.

Julius McCall chipped in 10 points.

Westminster School edges Whitesburg Christian

The Westminster School at Oak Mountain edged host Whitesburg Christian Academy 47-45 in Huntsville on Dec. 11.

Jake Doggett led the Knights (6-5) with 20 points.

Jeffrey Stanford added 17 points in the victory.

Kingwood Christian wins Wilcox tournament

The Kingwood Christian School boys’ basketball team defeated host Wilcox Academy 68-60 in its tournament championship game Dec. 11.

Charles Pope led the Lions (7-4) with 15 points. Pope also grabbed six rebounds.

Jordan Myers added 13 points and five assists. Madison Webb chipped in 12 points and four rebounds. Pope, Myers and Webb were each named to the all-tournament team.

Ben Littrell contributed seven points and a team-high 12 rebounds.

GIRLS

Oak Mountain edges Vestavia Hills

The Oak Mountain High School girls’ basketball team edged Vestavia Hills 41-39 in high school basketball action Dec. 11.

Lay Watts led the Eagles (7-2) with 18 points. Watts, who hit 9-of-11 free throws, also grabbed a team-high 10 rebounds.

Olivia Hood, who hit two 3-pointers in the third quarter to help Oak Mountain take control of the game, finished with six points.

Chelsea defeats Jemison

The Chelsea High School girls’ basketball team doubled up host Jemison 50-25 in a win Dec. 11.

Perri Lambert led the Hornets (2-5) with 14 points.

Amanda Mock added 12 points. Allie Luster chipped in 10 points.

Montevallo falls to McAdory

The Montevallo High School girls’ basketball team fell to McAdory 60-48 on Dec. 11.

Amber Cardwell led the Bulldogs (4-2) with 22 points. Cardwell also grabbed 16 rebounds and three blocked shots.

Kiah Smith added seven points. Mallory Anderson chipped in six points and nine rebounds.

Kingwood Christian defeats Clarke Prep in tournament

The Kingwood Christian School girls’ basketball team picked up a 52-29 win over Clarke Prep in the Wilcox Academy tournament consolation game Dec. 11.

Whitney Gillespie, who was named to the all-tournament team, led the Lions (3-6) with 19 points.

Blair Holsombeck, Casey Whitmer and Madeline Pearce chipped in eight points each.
