MONTEVALLO — The city of Montevallo has lost one of its public servants, Montevallo Mayor Ben McCrory said Dec. 17.

Montevallo City Council member Greg Pendleton passed away at about 3:30 a.m. Dec. 17. McCrory said Pendleton died of aftereffects of a stroke suffered several weeks ago.

“Council member Pendleton cared deeply about Montevallo. He grew up here. His roots were here. He went to high school and college here,” McCrory said in a press release. “He got married here and raised a family here. He loved Montevallo and we loved him. He will be sorely missed.”

Pendleton was halfway through his second term as a member of the city council. He was also the chairman of the council’s public safety committee, a member of the finance committee and served as the council’s representative on the Montevallo Water and Sewer Board.
