Shelby County wrestlers top Calera in dual meet

The Shelby County High School wrestling team defeated Calera in a dual meet Dec. 16.

Nine Wildcats earned victories in their individual matches against the Eagles.

Shelby County 135-pounder Jonathan Perrine pinned Jake Thomas of Calera. Nathan Herrington of Shelby County pinned Calera’s Shawn O’Neill in the 140-pound match.

The Wildcats’ Joey Guthrie pinned Braxton Stokes of Calera in the 215-pound match.

Noah Dorough, Austin Poe, Jeffrey Hughes, Justin Abbott, Luke Miller and Stephen Erhart each won by forfeit.

Five Calera wrestlers picked up wins in individual matches against the Wildcats.

The Eagles’ Austin Dowdy pinned Avery Manning of Shelby County in the 125-pound match. Calera heavyweight Kevin Murry pinned Shelby County’s Dylan Grantham.

Christian McDonald, Jarrett Seiger and Keenan Agee each won by forfeit.

The Wildcats also fell to Leeds 54-30 in the dual meet. Five Shelby County wrestlers won their individual matches against Leeds.

Herrington pinned Leeds’ Drake Schofield in the 140-pound match. Keaton Wood of Shelby County pinned Deriors Mitchell of Leeds in the 160-pound match.

Miller pinned Leeds’ Christian Hunter in the 171-pound match. Erhart and Guthrie each won by forfeit.

Calera fell to Leeds 51-24 in the dual meet. Three Eagles earned individual victories against Leeds.

Seiger pinned David Adkins of Leeds in 4:10 in 112-pound action. O’Neill pinned Schofield in 1:14 in the 140-pound match.

Stokes won by forfeit.
