Start 2011 off right

We’re at the midpoint of the biggest holiday season of the year, with Christmas just behind us and the new year directly ahead.

Even though it’s a little late, we’d like to ask for a belated Christmas gift from all our readers.

Please remember, when you’re celebrating New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day, police cars will be everywhere on the road.

They will set up roadblocks at random spots in different cities.

They will be watching for any indication the driver of your car is inebriated, and they will not hesitate to pull your car over.

If you plan to celebrate New Year’s Eve or New Year’s Day with alcohol, please make plans to either get a designated driver or stay right where you are until you’re sober.

The last thing we want to do when we come back to work Jan. 3 is write stories about county citizens dying in alcohol-related car crashes or being arrested for driving under the influence.

We’d much prefer to write about good things when kicking off the new year.

Please do your part to make sure 2011 gets off to a positive start.

That alone would be good enough of a Christmas present for us.

You don’t even have to worry about wrapping it or putting it in a pretty bag with a bow. We’ll take it just the way it comes.
