Brett Carter, owner of Sno Biz in Alabaster, is a young man who readily admits he doesn’t want to grow up. He loves young people, their sports, their activities, adventures and opinions.

He said “interacting with people in general is one of my greatest pleasures.” Having grown up in the Centerpoint area, Carter attended the Alabama School of Fine Arts where he graduated in 1992.

Carter has worked in retail, home security, motorcycle sales, meat and produce and even an oil change station. From each job he has information and relationships of which he is proud.

A lifelong Dallas Cowboys fan, with Danny White as his all-time favorite player, Carter proclaims no in-state football alliance. He and wife Kim live in the Inverness area, attend the Church of the Highlands, and each have a son from a previous marriage. The boys, Davis Carter and Bradley Robinson are 10 and 11 respectively. He and his wife’s goal is to raise productive, happy men of God.

When the Carters married in Maui in 2006 they were hooked on the laid back life, the bright colors and casual entertainment — just everything. An idea began even then for a self-operated, husband-and-wife business with a slower pace. In other words, saying goodbye to the “rat race.”

In 2010, Shannon Rumbly, who was operating “Our Daily Bread” in Alabaster decided she might close her business in order to have more volunteer and family time. Rumbly spotted Carter looking at a location a few units from her. She already had a kitchen area — the fit was perfect, and so began our own Alabaster Sno Biz.

Carter said he had carried his boys to the Pelham-Riverchase location for years. No up-front franchise fees, a protected distributorship and a love for the product made the decision an easy one.

Opening a Sno Biz with winter coming on was definitely something to think and pray about. Already, Carter knows many of his regular customers (adults and school kids) by name. He knows their interests, their sports, etc.

“I’m just a 36-year-old kid,” Carter said.

Kim did most of the décor and as business improves, the Carters have more ideas for decorating and accessorizing. They now host organized parties (teams, birthday and Wii) and other fun things.

Located in the Elliottsville Plaza (Alabama 119 South past Publix) they are easily accessible. Their dozens of flavors and combos are endless and yummy.

Christmas is over. Carry the family in for a treat.
