High school basketball roundup: Thompson tops Bessemer City in consolation game

The Thompson High School boys’ basketball team defeated Bessemer City 53-40 in the seventh-place game at the Metro tournament Dec. 31 at Homewood High School.

Demarcus Threatt led the Warriors (11-7) with 17 points.

Jaylon Jones added 11 points in the victory.

Oak Mountain falls to Vestavia Hills in consolation game

The Oak Mountain High School boys’ basketball team fell to Vestavia Hills 51-41 in the third-place game at the Metro tournament Dec. 31 at Homewood High School.

Garrett Cosgrove and Colton McGriff led the Eagles (8-7) with 15 points each.

Briarwood Christian tops Fort Payne in consolation game

The Briarwood Christian School boys’ basketball team defeated Fort Payne 68-39 in the third-place game at the Oneonta Christmas tournament Dec. 31.

James Palmer led the Lions (14-4) with 15 points. Palmer also grabbed a team-high 13 rebounds.

Luke Collins added seven points and eight assists.

GIRLS

Chelsea falls to Mountain Brook in consolation game

The Chelsea High School girls’ basketball team fell to Mountain Brook 70-28 in the third-place game at the Hoops for Hope tournament Dec. 31.

Sarah Holliday led the host Hornets (5-10) with nine points.

Calera defeats Hueytown in consolation game

The Calera High School girls’ basketball team defeated Hueytown 38-34 in the seventh-place game at the Hoops for Hope tournament Dec. 31 at Chelsea High School.

A’Kia Harris led the Eagles (3-8) with 10 points.

Harris also grabbed a team-high 12 rebounds.
