FROM STAFF REPORTS

Offense isn’t the primary concern for Spain Park High School boys’ basketball coach Brian Moon.

Moon’s squad has relied on a solid defensive effort during the past two weeks as the Jaguars posted impressive victories in the Jaguars Classic and the Big Orange Classic at Hoover High School.

In Spain Park’s first game back after the Christmas break, Moon saw both great offense and defense from his team Jan. 4 as the Jaguars defeated Thompson 62-44.

“We shot the ball better than we did over the break,” Moon said. “The defense needs to be there every night.”

Rembert Martin led Spain Park (13-6) with 16 points.

Robby Prater added 10 points in the victory. Mitchell Holt chipped in nine points.

Alex Close recorded eight points. Blake Dudchock finished with six points.

The Jaguars were hot early in the second quarter and pushed their lead to 28-9 following a 3-pointer by Martin with 4:10 remaining in the first half.

The Warriors cut the lead down to 45-33 midway through the third quarter following a layup by Threatt. Spain Park quickly regained the momentum and led by as many as 21 points in the fourth quarter.
