Spain Park wrestlers top Pelham in home meet

The Spain Park High School wrestling team defeated Pelham 42-36 in a home wrestling meet Jan. 3.

Seven Jaguars won their individual matches against the Panthers.

Spain Park’s Andres Galindo pinned Chase Kimbrell of Pelham in 1:25 in the 119-pound match. The Jaguars’ Mo Mills pinned the Panthers’ Brooks Haley in 3:04 in the 189-pound match.

Spain Park 215-pounder Kameron Ricks pinned John Brito-Cuevas of Pelham. Jackson Cotney, Conrad Hathcoat, Alex Potts and Blake Daniel of Spain Park each won by forfeit.

The Jaguars also dropped a match with Grissom 66-12 in the home meet. Two Spain Park wrestlers earned victories in their individual matches against Grissom.

Hathcoat pinned David Foster of Grissom in 3:01 in 135-pound action. Ricks pinned Grissom’s Sean Coyne in 5:21 in the 215-pound match.

Spain Park fell to Tuscaloosa County 55-12 in its final match in the meet. Two Jaguars won their individual matches against Tuscaloosa County.

Spain Park heavyweight Emmanuel Cooper pinned Elijah David of Tuscaloosa County in 3:09. Mo Mills won his 189-pound match by forfeit.

Seven Pelham wrestlers earned individual victories in the Panthers’ 42-36 loss to Pelham.

Nolan Vinson of Pelham pinned Spain Park’s Dillon Osborne in 1:44 in the 160-pound match. Pelham heavyweight Tyler Ray pinned Cooper in five minutes.

Cody Wehunt of Pelham pinned Hathcoat in 1:45 in a 135-pound exhibition match.

Jacob Blackmon, Logan Huey, Robby Brantley and Wehunt of Pelham each won their matches against the Jaguars by forfeit.

Pelham dropped its match against Grissom 72-10 in the meet at Spain Park. Two Panthers recorded individual wins against Grissom.

Huey earned a 15-0 technical fall against Trevor Edwards of Grissom in the 125-pound match. Wehunt pinned Grissom’s Trey McMillan in 2:28 in the 140-pound match.

Pelham also dropped a match with Tuscaloosa County 42-40 in the meet at Spain Park. Seven Panthers won their individual matches against the Wildcats.

Kimbrell pinned Harrison Turner of Tuscaloosa County in 1:47 in the 119-pound match. Wehunt pinned the Wildcats’ Kerriq Prewitt in 57 seconds in the 140-pound match.

Vinson earned a 13-5 major decision over Chris Stewart of Tuscaloosa County in the 160-pound match. Ray pinned David Elijah of Tuscaloosa County in 4:39 in the heavyweight match.

Nick English, Huey and Haley of Pelham each won their individual matches against Tuscaloosa County by forfeit.
