The Thompson High School wrestling team finished third in the Scott Rohrer Hoover Invitational on Jan. 8 at Hoover High School.

The Warriors racked up a total of 238.5 points, which put them 28 points behind Invitational winner Catholic.

Oak Mountain finished ninth in team standings with 169 points. Spain Park came in 14th overall in team standings with 89.5 points. Pelham racked up 45 points and finished 18th in team standings.

Two Thompson wrestlers won their respective weight classes. Three other Warriors came in runner-up in their respective weight classes.

Reed Jacks of Thompson won the 121-pound weight division. Jacks won all seven of his matches in the tournament, including a 4-3 decision over Tommy Bostany of Spain Park in the 121-pound championship match.

Thompson’s Nick Hall won the 154-pound title. Hall received a bye in the first round before posting victories in his final six matches, including a 7-2 decision over Mountain Brook’s William Byrd in the 154-pound championship match.

The Warriors’ John Austin (J.A.) Jones finished runner-up in the 147-pound weight division. Jones pinned his first six opponents in the tournament before dropping a 2-1 decision to Parker Grissom of Hoover in the 147-pound championship match.

Josh Gillespie of Thompson finished runner-up in the 162-pound weight division. Gillaspie posted five pins and one win by decision before dropping a 6-2 decision to Harrison Hill of Vestavia Hills in the 162-pound title match.

Thompson’s Jimmy Miller finished runner-up in the 217-pound championship match. Miller earned five pins and two victories by decision before dropping a 6-3 decision to Brett Brown of Tuscaloosa County in the 217-pound championship match.

Oak Mountain was led by Justin Woodall, who finished runner-up in the 191-pound weight division.

Woodall pinned his first six opponents in the tournament before dropping a 6-4 decision in overtime to Terrence Smith of Robert E. Lee in the 191-pound championship match.

Tommy Bostany led Spain Park, as he finished runner-up in the 121-pound weight division.

Bostany won his first six matches in the tournament before dropping a 4-3 decision to Jacks in the 121-pound title match.
