Calera wrestlers win three matches

The Calera High School wrestling team recorded three victories in a dual meet Jan. 20.

The Eagles picked up wins over Cullman, Sumiton Christian and host Walker in the meet.

Calera defeated Cullman 48-6 at the meet. Eight Eagles won their individual matches against Cullman.

Coby Mize of Calera pinned Brandon Payton of Cullman in 2:10 in the 152-pound match. Calera’s Kevin Murry pinned Harrison Mansour of Cullman in 1:20 in the 215-pound match.

Brian McDonald, Jarrett Seiger, Austin Dowdy, Keenan Agee, Cody Thomaston and Danny Diaz each won their matches by forfeit.

Calera picked up a 48-11 win over Sumiton Christian. Eight Calera wrestlers won their individual matches against Sumiton Christian.

McDonald pinned Warren Chase of Sumiton Christian in 1:15 in the 103-pound match. Mize pinned Sumiton Christian’s Hadyn Valenta in 1:10 in the 152-pound match.

Murry pinned Casey Werner of Sumiton Christian in 1:50 in the 215-pound match. Seiger, Dowdy, Shawn O’Neill, Thomaston and Diaz each won their matches by forfeit.

Calera doubled up host Walker 42-21 at the meet. Seven Eagles won their individual matches against Walker.

Seiger pinned Will Stanger of Walker in 4:10 in the 119-pound match. Dowdy pinned Hunter Ford of Walker in 1:30 in the 125-pound match.

O’Neill pinned Walker’s Jordan Brown in 2:15 in the 135-pound match. Thomaston pinned James Reed of Walker in 1:45 in the 160-pound match.

Murry pinned Walker’s Taylor Swaggerty in 1:27 in the 215-pound match. Mize and Diaz each won their matches by forfeit.
