The University of Montevallo women’s basketball team suffered a tough shooting night on the road at Georgia College and State University as the Falcons fell 57-42 in a Peach Belt Conference contest Jan. 22.

Montevallo shot just 29.8 percent from the field, its second lowest percentage of the season.

The Falcons (7-8 overall, 3-3 in Peach Belt Conference) were led by senior Tiaren Young, who scored nine points and grabbed nine rebounds.

Junior Davia Harris chipped in eight points and four rebounds. Senior Carrie Parrott and junior Taylor Welch each contributed six points to the effort.

Both teams struggled offensively as Georgia College and State University hit only 37.3 percent of its shots.

The Bobcats opened the game with a 9-2 run and never looked back. Their largest lead of the half came at the 13:18 mark as a free throw gave the Bobcats an 11-point lead.

Montevallo answered with a 7-0 run to cut the lead back to four points, but that would be as close as the Falcons would get in the half as the Bobcats maintained a small cushion. The Falcons trailed 30-24 at halftime.

In the second half, the Bobcats continued to steadily build their lead and eventually held their largest lead of the night up 57-40 with 13 seconds left.
