Saints stop cold-shooting Falcons

The University of Montevallo women’s basketball team (7-9, 3-4 PBC) suffered its second poorest shooting performance of the season in a 61-48 loss on the road at North Georgia College and State University in a Peach Belt Conference contest Jan. 24.

The Saints held the Falcons to 27 percent shooting in the loss.

Montevallo (7-9 overall, 3-4 in Peach Belt Conference) was led by senior Carrie Parrott, who had 10 points and nine rebounds.

Junior Shavonne Seymore added 10 points and six rebounds. Junior Tiffany McClure had six points, four rebounds and four assists.

The Saints also dominated the boards as they outrebounded the Falcons 51-35.

With 12:41 left in the first half and the Falcons trailing 7-6, the Saints went on a 12-0 run to take a 19-6 lead with just 6:38 left in the first half. The Falcons responded with a 7-2 run, powered by four points from senior Tiaren Young, to cut the Saints lead to nine points as the clock expired to end the first half.

The Saints opened up the second half with a 3-pointer and continued to build on their lead. The Saints opened up the game at the 11:59 mark when they began a 15-5 run to take a 23-point lead with just under five minutes to play.

Montevallo was able to cut the Saints lead by 10 points in the final minutes of the game but couldn’t cut the lead to single digits.
