Cornerstone tops Coosa Valley to clinch share of area title

The Cornerstone Christian School boys’ basketball team defeated Coosa Valley 58-53 to clinch a share of the AISA Class 1A, Region 2 — Area 1 contest Jan. 24.

Kendall Moore led the Chargers (5-9 overall, 5-1 in AISA Class 1A, Region 2 — Area 1) with a game-high 30 points. Moore also grabbed a team-high 11 rebounds to finish with a double-double.

Clayton Halbert chipped in 12 points and seven rebounds in the victory.

John Bullen led Coosa Valley (8-11 overall, 5-1 in AISA Class 1A, Region 2 — Area 1) with 21 points.

Steven Cryer added 12 points in the defeat.

GIRLS

The Coosa Valley Academy girls’ basketball team finished AISA Class 1A, Region 2 — Area 1 play undefeated following a 57-49 win over Cornerstone Christian School in its final area contest Jan. 24.

Kaylan Rich led the Rebels (14-2 overall, 4-0 in AISA Class 1A, Region 2 — Area 1) with a game-high 24 points. Rich also grabbed 17 rebounds to finish with a double-double.

Lauren Archer added 17 points. Jordan Smiley finished with eight points and a team-high 20 rebounds in the victory.

Jana Kelbie Armstrong led Cornerstone Christian (4-11 overall, 0-4 in AISA Class 1A, Region 2 — Area 1) with 16 points.

Kailey Goodwin chipped in 15 points in the defeat.
