Oak Mountain downs Thompson to remain in area title chase

The Oak Mountain High School boys’ basketball team isn’t giving up a share of the Class 6A, Area 10 crown without a fight.

With Thompson one win away from clinching the regular season area championship, the Eagles kept the Warriors from heading home with the title following a 52-51 win Jan. 25 in a matchup between the top two teams in Class 6A, Area 10.

Thompson needs a win over Pelham and Oak Mountain must defeat Hoover in key battles Jan. 28 for the two teams to share the area championship.

Garrett Cosgrove led the Eagles (13-9 overall, 4-1 in Class 6A, Area 10) with 19 points.

Colton McGriff added 10 points in the victory.

Demarcus Threatt led Thompson (16-9 overall, 4-1 in Class 6A, Area 10) with 17 points.

Jaylon Jones added 16 points. Ryan Spence contributed 12 points in the defeat.

GIRLS

The Oak Mountain High School girls’ basketball team defeated Thompson 35-30 in a Class 6A, Area 10 contest Jan. 25.

Mackenzie Garmany led the Eagles (17-5 overall, 4-1 in Class 6A, Area 10) with 15 points.

Maegen McDanal added 10 points in the victory.

KaDeisha Stowes led Thompson (9-11 overall, 1-4 in Class 6A, Area 10) with 12 points.
