AHSAA reinstates indoor track and field

The Alabama High School Athletic Association reinstated indoor track and field Jan. 26 at the quarterly meeting of the Central Board at its Montgomery office.
Indoor track, discontinued after the 2007 season until adequate facilities became available, will resume as a championship sport Feb. 3-4, 2012, at the new multi-purpose facility being constructed at Fair Park in Birmingham. The regular season will again be held during the month of January.
Athletes from six Shelby County schools participated in the last indoor track and field state championship meet in 2007, including Oak Mountain, Pelham, Spain Park, Briarwood Christian, Shelby County and Vincent.
The 2007 championship meet was held in Priceville.
