William “Bill” Russell Rotenberry

William “Bill” Russell Rotenberry, age 88, passed away Thursday, January 27, 2011. He was born April 7, 1922 to Fair William and Fay Langston Rotenberry, a native of Ashby and a long time resident of Montevallo. He was educated in the Montevallo schools and Auburn University (then, Alabama Polytechnic Institute). He was a liaison pilot, U.S. Army Field Artillery, World War II in the Philippines and Occupied Red China. He owned the Plaza Grill Restaurant in Montevallo for many years.

He married Julia Ward of Montevallo, who survives him, at Ft. Sill, Okla. in 1945. He is also survived by two daughters, Janet Rotenberry Burnett (Peter), St. Petersburg, Fla. and Lynn Rotenberry Moran (Jack), Alexander City; sister, Melba Rotenberry Daniel, Birmingham; two grandsons, John Harold Dark (Natalie) of Dadeville and William Ward Dark (Jill) of San Antonio, Texas; and two great-granddaughters, Annsley Paradice Dark and Aubrie Nicole Dark.

A memorial service will be held Sunday, January 30, 2011 at 3 p.m. at Montevallo City Cemetery with Rev. Robin Norsworthy officiating, Rockco Funeral Home, Montevallo directing. Rockcofuneralhomes.com
