Patriots second half surge downs Falcons

The University of Montevallo women’s basketball team continued its struggles on the road as Francis Marion University downed the Falcons 76-59 in a Peach Belt Conference contest Jan. 30.

Montevallo (7-11 overall, 3-6 in Peach Belt Conference) was once again on the short end in the free-throw battle as the Patriots took 30 free throws compared to the Falcons’ 19 attempts.

The Falcons were led by junior Shavonne Seymore, who turned in a career-high 21 points and eight rebounds. Seymore also chipped in three steals.

Junior Tiffany McClure had 12 points, four assists and three steals. Senior Jessica Collins led the Falcons in assists with five while chipping in six points and four steals.

The Falcons took a 11-7 lead in the opening five minutes of the game. With 9:50 left in the first half and the Falcons up by one point, the Patriots began a short 5-0 run that swung the momentum to their side. The Falcons never regained the lead.

With 16:34 left in the game and the Falcons down by five points, the Patriots began a 10-0 run that opened up a 15-point lead. Montevallo was unable to cut that lead to below double digits the rest of the game.
