Raymond E. “Shorty” Yessick, age 87, of Alabaster, passed away Monday, January 10, 2011. He was the former co-owner of Curt & Shorty’s Garage, a deacon of Ryan Baptist Church and a member of Buck Creek Lodge #410 F. and A.M. Alabaster. He served in WWII as a sergeant in the 1107th Army Air Force Base Unit. He led a life of great accomplishment and contribution to all who knew him. He was an incredible husband, father, grandfather and friend. He was born in Boothton to John Thomas and Effie Lee Poole Yessick, who preceded him in death, as well as his brothers, Clarence, John Thomas Jr, J.C. (Jake) and one son, Raymond Earl.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Ruby Jean; sons, Michael D. Yessick (Sherry) and Ricky Linn Yessick (Laura) of Alabaster; daughter, Grethel Peters (Danny) of Alexander City. Also, eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; sisters, Gerry Lovelady and Mildred Lindsay; brothers, James T. Yessick and Gary Wayne Yessick, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.

Visitation was held on be Friday, January 14, 2011 from 6-8 p.m. at Charter Funeral Home. Funeral services were held at 1 p.m., Saturday, January 15, 2011 at Ryan Baptist Church in Montevallo with Brother Charles Stapp officiating. Burial was in the adjoining cemetery. Arrangements were under the direction of Charter Funeral Home.
