Briarwood Christian takes down Pelham

The Briarwood Christian School boys’ basketball team outscored Pelham by nine points in the second quarter Feb. 1 to take control of a tight game and cap senior night with a 57-46 victory over the Panthers.

Jason Laatsch led the way for Briarwood Christian (20-9) with 18 points.  Justin Bice and James Palmer added nine points apiece with Palmer contributing a team-high seven rebounds.

Qadash Williams led Pelham (8-15) with a season-best 14 points while grabbing seven rebounds.  Graham Reilly and Tanner Rice each scored 11 points for the Panthers.  Reilly handed out five assists while Rice pulled down six boards.

The Lions, leading 27-18 at halftime, added to their advantage in the third quarter before the Panthers made a late run in the final period.

Down 46-32 after three quarters, Pelham trimmed the margin to seven points at 48-41 midway through the fourth quarter but could not get any closer.

The Lions connected on 50 percent (22-of-44) of their shots in the game, while the Panthers hit 40 percent (19-of-47).

GIRLS

The Briarwood Christian School girls’ basketball team defeated Pelham 52-21 on senior night Feb. 1.

Cara Medders and Abbie Cutcliffe led the Lions (23-4) with 12 points each.

Hannah Wainwright added 10 points in the victory.

Erin Whitman led Pelham (5-15) with seven points.
