Shelby County Highway 47 south of Chelsea has re-opened following a three-car accident with at least one fatality late Wednesday afternoon.

Two life-flight helicopters landed shortly after the accident and transported two people to area hospitals.

The accident closed the highway, commonly called Chelsea Road, for about an hour. Traffic was diverted at the intersection of County Highway 39 north of the accident and County Highway 49 south of the accident.

Emergency responders from the Chelsea and Cahaba Valley fire departments were dispatched to the scene, along with the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office.
