Oak Mountain falls to Hoover in area tournament

ALABASTER — The Oak Mountain High School boys’ basketball team saw its season come to an end following a 35-27 loss to Hoover in the Alabama High School Athletic Association Class 6A, Area 10 tournament semifinals Feb. 11 at Thompson High School.

Garrett Cosgrove led the Eagles (15-12) with 12 points in their final game.

Colton McGriff added seven points. Jake Delaney chipped in four points. Heath Quinn and Bert Seitz finished with two points each.

Hoover guard John Crain, who led the Buccaneers with 11 points, drained three 3-pointers in the opening half to help the Bucs jump out to a 15-8 lead after the first 16 minutes.

Crain had three of the Bucs’ four field goals in the first half. Oak Mountain managed only three field goals in the opening half.

The Eagles opened the second half with a 9-2 run to tie the game at 17-17 with 3:22 remaining in the third quarter following an offensive rebound and basket by Delaney. Cosgrove scored six points during the spurt early in the second half.

Hoover pushed its lead back to 22-19 heading into the fourth quarter. Delaney scored a basket with 3:32 remaining to cut the Bucs’ lead to 24-23.

However, Hoover hit seven free throws in the final three minutes of the game to hold off the Eagles.
