The Chelsea High School wrestling team finished in 11th place in team standings at an Alabama High School Athletic Association Class 5A section meet Feb. 12 at Tallassee High School.

The Hornets, who racked up 10 points in the section meet, didn’t have a wrestler qualify for the Class 5A state tournament.

Heavyweight freshman Tyler Downard led Chelsea as he reached the consolation semifinals in his weight division.

Downard, who wrapped up his season with a 16-15 record in individual matches, pinned Tyler Smith of Russell County in three minutes in the opening round at the section meet.

After being pinned by Matt Thomas of Chilton County in 2:45 in the championship quarterfinals, Downard pinned Bart Dial of Pinson Valley in 2:21 in the consolation bracket.

Downard also pinned McAdory’s James Segars in 1:24 in a consolation bracket match before being pinned by Marcus Dawson of Hueytown in 4:51 in the consolation semifinals.
