Surge prevail in final week of SCYBL regular season

The Shelby County Youth Basketball League regular season is over.

Seedings have been set and tournament play begins Feb. 15. Each team in each division starts with a clean slate. The championships are up for grabs in each division.

Come out and support your Shelby County Youth Basketball League, the stars of tomorrow.

DIVISION 6 (GIRLS)

The Surge prevailed in a 15 to 14 victory. They were led by Allie Coyte with 8 points, Cydnee Goodwin had 5 rebounds and 8 steals, Sarah Kober was a defensive stopper, Nadia Cockrell showed tremendous effort, and Caitlyn Buie hustled.

Frostie’s Shakes shook the Killers, 28 to 9. They were led by Emily Robinson with 12 points and 21 rebounds, Meredith Johnson had 8 points and 7 steals, Kendra Shaw had 8 points and 14 rebounds, Alexis Mallory was a force on defense, Emily Johnson hustled, and Dayli Wood provided valuable minutes.

DIVISION 5 (GIRLS)

The Pink Survivors won 19 to 18. Gracie Driskell led with 5 points, Madison Purcell and Katelyn Lucas had 4 points each, Emilie Roberson had 5 rebounds, Abby Bevard played good on both ends of the court, and Bethany McKinney added valuable minutes.

The Dynamites exploded to victory. They were led by Sarah Goodwin with 9 points, Zoey Jones had 4 rebounds, Angel Mallory was aggravating on defense, Bethany Dawkins chipped in 2 points, and Caliyah Laughlin played with a purpose.

DIVISION 2 (BOYS)

The Blazers, coached by Brian Stevens, torched their opponent, 24 to 10. Jacob Howard scored 11 points, Ethan Stevens added 6 points, Tanner Roland grabbed 6 boards, and Jason Hatten had 4 steals.

The Hawks swooped the Lightning Bolts 31 to 20. They were led by Eli Jones with 11 points, Kaden Cardwell had 9 rebounds, with David Vick and Bailey Beadlecomb providing defense and hustle.

Paschall’s Team lost a heartbreaker 20 to 17. They were led by Tanner Falkner with 6 points, Braden Paschall added 3 points, Isaiah Stamps had 8 rebounds, and Drew Largin played great defense.

DIVISION 1 (BOYS & GIRLS)

The Couch Potatos won a thriller, 20 to 19. They were led by Anna Couch with 8 points, Jalyn Jones added 7 points, Alyssa Seale had 10 rebounds, and Andrew Noe had 2 steals.

The Rockets were led by Ben Marling with 9 points, Joel Pennington had 5 steals, Harrison Blinkard played good defense, with Ethan Pierce and Mike Vickery adding valuable minutes.

DIVISION 4 (BOYS)

The Bombers were led by Brannon Jones with 14 points, Adam Landefeld added 8 points, Dalton Purcell and Dylan Holloman anchored the defense, with Adison Couch and Mike Hollmen getting an abundance of rebounds.

DIVISION 3 (BOYS)

The Argonauts could not get it together and lost. They were led by Jacob Walton with 5 points, Mitchell Kines added 3 points, Camden Roulier and E.J. Johnson combined for 17 rebounds, Deonta Cotton had 3 steals, Austin Wilder played good defense, and Chase Glover added valuable minutes.
