Welloyn “Joy” Wilson, age 72, of Montevallo passed away on Tuesday, Feb. 8, 2011. She was born in Millport. Joy was preceded in death by her parents, Vivian Evans Atkins and Cleon Jackson Atkins. She is survived by her loving husband of over 54 years, Robert D. “Bob” Wilson; her three children, Jennifer Dee Noble (Roger), Geoffrey Evan Wilson (Missy) of Montevallo and Bradley Robert Wilson of Huntsville; five grandchildren, Tiffany Reed (Jason) of Trussville, Jeremy Noble (Emily Anne) of Calera, Andy Noble (Amanda) of Pelham, Austin Wilson of Huntsville and Bryan Wilson of Montevallo; and four great-grandchildren, Sarah and Rachel Reed of Trussville and Johnson and Mia Noble of Calera.

Joy was the fifth of seven girls. Surviving sisters are Jimmie Rose Giles (William), Eunice Walker (Gordon), Sybil Hobson (Bobby) of Tuscaloosa, Ann Whetstone (Dan), Fay Rice (Calvin) of Northport and Elaine Gray of Grand Junction, Colo.

“Sister Joy” was a member of Oak Mountain church of Christ. She was known as a kind, gentle and loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother “Gigi,” sister and friend. She was a faithful Christian, homemaker, seamstress and writer who always loved her precious family time. Joy lived her life as, and was, the present-day example of the “virtuous woman” of Proverbs 31. Joy will be remembered for her encouragement and continual joyful spirit.

Visitation will be from 12:30-2 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 11, 2011, at Ridout’s Southern Heritage Funeral Home in Pelham. The funeral service will be the same day at 2 p.m. in Southern Heritage Chapel, Pelham, with Bob Hutto officiating. Burial will follow in Southern Heritage Cemetery, Pelham.
