University of Montevallo men’s cross country head coach Michael Marquardt announced the signing of Zackery Walsh, who will join the Falcons in the fall of 2011.

Walsh will come to Montevallo after graduating from Hewitt-Trussville High School this spring.

“I am very excited to add Zackery to our program,” said coach Marquardt. “The thing I noticed first about Zackery is his love of running and that he is willing to work every day. Our brand new program needs guys like this.”

Walsh is team captain for the cross country and track and field teams at Hewitt-Trussville. His current personal records are 16:55 for a 5K race, 10:39 for a 3200-meter run and 4:47 for a 1600-meter run.

Walsh helped lead his team to a second-place team finish at the Alabama High School Athletic Association Class 6A cross country state championships this past season. Walsh is also an outstanding student with a 3.8 GPA and is a member of the Mu Alpha Theta Math Honors Society, HTHS Business and Finance Academy and the National Honor Society.
