Chelsea wins opening match against Gadsden City

The Chelsea High School girls’ soccer team defeated Gadsden City 5-0 in its season-opening match Feb. 15.

Iyani Hughes led the Hornets (1-0) with three goals.

Kayla Ogletree and Mara Roberts added one goal each. Roberts also recorded an assist.

Kaity Potter finished with two assists. Perri Lambert also recorded an assist.

Chelsea goalkeepers Ashleigh Niven and Amanda Weygand combined to post a shutout. Niven finished with one save.

BOYS

Ashley Page led the Hornets (1-0) with three goals.

Will Bevill also scored a goal in the victory.

Justin Capers, Dakota Dresbach, Travis Mitchell and Austin Rikard finished with one assist each. Chelsea goalkeeper Josh Carpenter recorded four saves as he posted a shutout.
