The Thompson High School wrestling team will head into the final round of the Alabama High School Athletic Association Class 6A state tournament in first place in team standings at the Von Braun Center in Huntsville.

The Warriors, who have racked up 140 team points during the first two days of the tournament and lead second-place Hoover by six points, will have two team members wrestle for individual championships Feb. 19. Thompson is in search of its first ever state wrestling championship.

Reed Jacks of Thompson will wrestle for an individual championship in the 119-pound weight division. Jacks pinned Will Knox of Vestavia Hills in 4:40 in the 119-pound championship semifinals Feb. 18.

John Austin (J.A.) Jones of Thompson will wrestle for an individual championship in the 145-pound weight division. Jones pinned Patrick McDaniel of Huntsville in 2:39 in the 145-pound championship semifinals Feb. 18.

Thompson will also have four wrestlers competing in consolation final matches Feb. 19.

The Warriors’ Brewer Gilliland earned a 13-2 major decision over Corey Parker of Buckhorn in the 130-pound weight division consolation semifinals. Cody Albarado of Thompson earned a 4-3 decision over Austin Taylor of Hewitt-Trussville in the 140-pound weight division consolation semifinals.

Thompson’s Nick Hall earned an 8-3 decision over Killian Hoyt of Grissom in the 152-pound weight division consolation semifinals. Jesse Masters of Thompson pinned Xavier Drake of Opelika in 1:28 in the 189-pound weight division consolation semifinals.

Oak Mountain enters the final round of the AHSAA Class 6A state tournament in ninth place in team standings with 62 points.

The Eagles’ Justin Woodall will wrestle for an individual championship in the 189-pound weight division Feb. 19. Woodall pinned Teryence Glaze of Hoover in 5:20 in the 189-pound consolation semifinals.

Jared Godfrey of Oak Mountain will wrestle in the 125-pound weight division consolation final Feb. 19. Godfrey won his 125-pound consolation semifinal match against Connor Hayman of Gardendale by forfeit.

Spain Park enters the final round of the AHSAA Class 6A state tournament in 20th place in team standings with 36 points.

Two Jaguars will wrestle in consolation final matches Feb. 19.

Tommy Bostany of Spain Park will wrestle in the 119-pound weight division consolation final. Bostany earned a 9-2 decision over Austin Holt of Grissom in the 119-pound consolation semifinals Feb. 18.

Spain Park’s Kameron Ricks will wrestle in the 215-pound weight division consolation final. Ricks pinned Quin Allen of Benjamin Russell in 2:32 in the 215-pound consolation semifinals Feb. 18.

Pelham enters the final round of the AHSAA Class 6A state tournament in 24th place in team standings with seven points.

All three Panthers were knocked out of the state tournament following the second round of consolation matches.

Logan Huey of Pelham fell to Jared Godfrey of Oak Mountain 2-0 in his 125-pound consolation match. The Panthers’ Cody Wehunt lost his 140-pound consolation match against Jacob Hill of Benjamin Russell by forfeit.

Tyler Ray of Pelham dropped a 3-1 decision in overtime to Tori Bennett of Central-Phenix City his heavyweight consolation match.
