The University of Montevallo women’s basketball team fell 91-59 on the road at undefeated Clayton State University in a Peach Belt Conference contest Feb. 19.

Clayton State entered the contest as the top-ranked team in the latest National Association of Basketball Coaches’ NCAA Division II poll.

Montevallo (9-15 overall, 5-10 in Peach Belt Conference) was led by senior Carrie Parrott, who had 17 points, three rebounds and two steals.

Junior Shavonne Seymore chipped in 10 points and four boards. Junior Taylor Welch chipped in nine points, all of which came from beyond the arc. Junior Tiffany McClure led the Falcons with six rebounds and four assists.

The Falcons shot 38.6 percent from the field, including a first half in which they hit just 8-of-29 shots. The Lakers hit 61.8 percent of their shots en route to the victory.

The Falcons trailed by just one point eight minutes into the game at 12-11, but the Lakers used a 27-11 run to end the first half up 49-22.

Montevallo opened the second half with a 10-2 run to cut the lead to 19 points, but that would be as close as the Falcons would get.
