Westminster tops Calera in first varsity soccer match

The Westminster School at Oak Mountain defeated Calera 3-1 in its first ever boys’ soccer match Feb. 18.

Garrett Smith scored the Knights’ first varsity goal in the 14th minute of the first half, off an assist by Whitten Green, to give Westminster an early 1-0 lead.

Green scored a goal in the 22nd minute of the contest to push the Knights’ lead to 2-0. Calera scored a goal late in the first half to cut the Westminster lead to 2-1.

Smith capped the scoring in the  match with an unassisted goal in the 81st minute of the contest.

“I was very proud to have finished on top of a very good Calera team, and look forward to seeing what the future holds for this fine team and school,” said Westminster coach David Sharp.
