The Spain Park High School girls’ soccer team defeated Briarwood Christian School 5-0 in a battle of defending state champions Feb. 22.

The Jaguars, the defending Alabama High School Athletic Association Class 6A champions, improved to 2-0 with the victory over the defending AHSAA Class 5A champion Lions.

Simone Charley led Spain Park with three goals.

Abby Brunner and Elizabeth Sturma added one goal each.

Spain Park goalkeeper Schyler Arnold recorded two saves as she posted a shutout.
