The Kingwood Christian School softball team swept a doubleheader with Coosa Valley Academy on opening day Feb. 22.

The Lions (2-0) won the opener 10-5 in five innings and defeated the Rebels 15-0 in four innings in the nightcap.

Whitney Gillespie led Kingwood Christian at the plate in the opener by going 3-for-3 with a homerun and a double. Gillespie also earned the win on the mound after pitching a one-hitter complete game with nine strikeouts.

Brook Roper, Erin Jones and Karley Chamblee each finished 2-for-3 at the plate in the opener.

Kaylyn Ingram struck out two batters and picked up the win on the mound in the nightcap. Madeline Lee struck out two batters in a perfect inning in relief.

Jones finished 3-for-3 at the plate with a double. Gillespie went 2-for-3 with a double.
