Pelham drops softball opener against Chilton County

The Pelham High School softball team fell to Chilton County 9-6 in its 2011 season opener Feb. 24.

The Panthers (0-1) fell behind 4-0 after the first inning in their season-opening game. Pelham responded with one run in the second inning and two runs in the third inning to cut the deficit to 4-3 before Chilton County scored four more runs in the fourth inning to clinch the victory.

Emily Spain led Pelham at the plate as she finished 3-for-5.

Caitlyn Sapp finished 2-for-3 with two runs scored. Kristian Foster went 2-for-4 with three RBIs and a run scored. Heather McGuirk finished 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored.

Mary Morgan Dramer went 2-for-5. Jessie Breland finished 2-for-4. Kayla Watson, Erin Whitman and Becky Fox finished 1-for-2 each in the defeat. Fox also drove in a run.

Fox took the loss in the circle after giving up eight runs, including six earned runs, on eight hits with four strikeouts and a walk in 3 2/3 innings.

Jennifer Davis gave up one earned run on four hits with a strikeout and a walk in 2 1/3 innings in relief.
