Coosa Valley splits doubleheader with Springwood

The Coosa Valley Academy baseball team split a doubleheader with Springwood in high school baseball action Feb. 24.

The Rebels (6-1) dropped the opener 5-4 before rebounding with an 18-4 win in the nightcap.

Freshman Austin Tatum earned the win on the mound in his first varsity start in the nightcap after striking out four batters in three innings in the nightcap.

Saxon Grimes led Coosa Valley at the plate as he finished with a homer and four RBIs. The Rebels racked up 16 hits in the win.

Myles Varner also homered and drove in two runs. Varner also had a double.

Jarrod Mims finished with two hits and drove in two runs. Stephen Cryer finished with a triple and drove in three runs. Daniel Kennedy had a hit and drove in two runs.

Kennedy took the loss on the mound in the opener. The Rebels used four pitchers, who gave up only four hits in the 5-4 loss.

Landon Floyd led Coosa Valley at the plate as he finished with two hits and an RBI.
