Spain Park sweeps baseball tripleheader

The Spain Park High School baseball team defeated Pell City, Alexandria and Carrollton High (Ga.) in high school baseball action Feb. 26.

The Jaguars (6-0) defeated Pell City 7-2.

Alex Close led Spain Park at the plate as he finished 2-for-2 with an RBI and a run scored.

Marks Abernathy drove in three runs and scored a run in the victory.

Abernathy picked up the win on the mound after striking out seven batters in a complete game.

The Jaguars defeated Alexandria 12-6.

Charlie McPherson led Spain Park at the plate with three hits.

Abernathy and Nathan Brock drove in two runs each. Close scored a team-high four runs.

Spain Park defeated Carrollton High (Ga.) 11-2.

McPherson led the Jaguars at the plate as he finished 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored. Colton Freeman finished with two hits and three RBIs.

Mikey White went 1-for-3 with two RBIs and three runs scored. Close finished 1-for-2 and drove in two runs. Carter White went 1-for-4 and scored one run. Paul Angel scored two runs.

Close picked up the win on the mound after giving up one earned run on three hits with five strikeouts and a walk in four innings.

Chris Ellis pitched one scoreless inning. Brock gave up one earned run on three hits with two strikeouts and two walks in two innings.
