Calera tops rival Montevallo

The Calera High School baseball team defeated rival Montevallo 6-3 in high school baseball action Feb. 26.

The Eagles (2-3) finished with 11 hits in the victory.

J.R. Seay led the Eagles at the plate as he finished 2-for-4 with a home run and two RBIs.

Jordan Sizemore went 2-for-4 with a home run and drove in one run. Nathan Smith finished 2-for-3 and drove in one run.

Stetson Cupp picked up the win on the mound.

Taylor Burr led Montevallo (2-2) at the plate as he finished 2-for-4 with a double and a run scored.

Chase Hamrick, who took the loss on the mound, went 2-for-3 with two doubles and a run scored. Zack Smith finished 1-for-4 and drove in one run in the defeat.

Hamrick gave up four earned runs with a strikeout in five innings. Burr gave up one earned run in one inning in relief.

Calera fell to Marbury 18-7 in the doubleheader.

Montevallo fell to Marbury 7-6.

The Bulldogs led entering the seventh inning before Marbury made a comeback to clinch the victory.

Hamrick led Montevallo at the plate as he finished 3-for-3 with two home runs, two RBIs and three runs scored.

Eric Smith finished 3-for-4. Zach Smith went 2-for-4 with two RBIs and a run scored.

Burr finished 2-for-4 with two runs scored. Baugh finished 2-for-4 with a double and a run scored.

Burr started on the mound and gave up two earned runs with five strikeouts in five innings. Baugh gave up two earned runs in one inning. Ethan Staab gave up two earned runs in 2/3 of an inning.
