Thompson splits baseball doubleheader

The Thompson High School baseball team split a doubleheader with Boaz and Etowah in high school baseball action Feb. 26.

The Warriors (3-3) defeated Boaz 3-2.

Junior pitcher Aron McRee (1-0) pitched the Warriors to victory, going six strong innings and allowing only two runs on six hits with five strikeouts and no walks.

Alex Henderson picked up the save by retiring the side in order with one strikeout in the bottom of the seventh inning. Gus Williford and Alex Henderson had two hits each in the victory.

Thompson fell to Etowah 5-4.

Taylor Bria led the Warriors at the plate as he went 2-for-3.

Matt Haskins, Gus Williford, Jake Hester and Chad Collum all drove in runs.

Skylar Estell got the start for the Warriors and stuck out six batters in four innings, allowing two runs on three hits with one walk. Conner Gill (0-1) picked up the loss in relief after allowing three runs on three hits with three strikeouts and three walks.
