Falcons set to host conference tournament game

The University of Montevallo men’s basketball team will begin its quest for its first ever Peach Belt Conference tournament championship when the Falcons host Georgia College and State University at 7 p.m. March 1 in a first-round game at BankTrust Arena.

General admission tickets are $6 for adults and $4 for children 12-under. Only Peach Belt Conference passes and Peach Belt Conference student IDs will be honored. Tickets can be purchased at the ticket booth when BankTrust Arena opens at 6 p.m.

Montevallo, the No. 2 seed in the West Division, enters the game at 17-9 overall and finished 10-7 in Peach Belt Conference play during the regular season. Georgia College and State, the No. 3 seed in the West, is 16-9 overall and also finished 10-7 in Peach Belt Conference play during the regular season.

Montevallo swept Georgia College and State during the season. The Falcons won 80-79 in overtime on the road and won 76-66 in Montevallo.

The winner of the Montevallo/Georgia College and State game will advance to the tournament’s semifinals March 5 to face the Francis Marion/Augusta State winner at 6 p.m. in USC-Aiken’s Convocation Center in Aiken, S.C.

The tournament championship game is set for 2 p.m., Sunday, March 6, at the Convocation Center.

The University of Montevallo women’s basketball team will travel to undefeated Clayton State University in the first round of the women’s conference tournament. The Falcons, who finished the regular season with a 10-16 record and a 6-11 mark in Peach Belt Conference play, will face Clayton State at 6 p.m. March 2.
