George Cason “Casey” Hardison, Sr., 82, died Feb. 28, 2011, at his home in Hoover.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 2 at Mountain Chapel United Methodist Church in Birmingham. Family will receive friends on Tuesday, March 1 from 5-7 p.m. at Southern Heritage Funeral Home.

He was born September 23, 1928, in Byron, Ga. to John Howard and Florence Hardison.

After graduating from Byron High School, he attended Mercer University for one year before beginning his career with Georgia Power Company at Plant Arkwright. During this time, he was drafted into the Army and served two years during the Korean Conflict. After 46 years of service, he retired from Alabama Power (Southern Company). Not ready to quit working, he later went to Puerto Rico for one year as a consultant with Southern Company.

He was always very active, enjoying swimming, water skiing and, in later years, motorcycling. After retiring, he went on extended motorcycle trips throughout Europe and the continental U.S., including Alaska, Canada and Mexico.

He and his wife Elsie were always active members of Methodist churches wherever they lived and have been active at Mountain Chapel for the last 31 years. He was also a long-time member of the Kiwanis Club.

Mr. Hardison is survived by his wife of 57 years, Elsie; son and spouse, George and Marsha Hardison; daughter and spouse, Tracey and Jon Marc Roberts; brothers, Howard and Glen Hardison; sister, Mary Buehler; and three grandchildren, Cason Willett and Will and Libby Hardison.
