Falcons compete in two different tournaments

The University of Montevallo men’s golf team split into two squads this past weekend with tournaments in Birmingham and Pensacola, Fla.

A full squad headed to the Argonaut Invitational in Pensacola, Fla., where the Falcons finished 13th overall in team standings in the tournament.

Two other members of the golf team traveled up to Robert Trent Jones’ Oxmoor Valley to compete in the Birmingham-Southern College Spring Invitational. Freshman Joe Haupt finished second overall in individual standings at the event. Freshman Jackson Byars finished tied for 29th overall in individual standings at the tournament.

Haupt shot a two round score of 152, just two strokes behind the leader. Byars had a two-round score of 165.

At the Argonaut Invitational, junior Gonzalo Gambertoglio had an outstanding tournament after finishing 14th overall in individual standings with a three-round score of 222 strokes, just six shots over par.

Senior Ruwaldt Viljoen finished 48th overall in individual standings with a three-round score of 231.

Sophomore Mariano Lepori tied for 58th overall in individual standings with a score of 233. Freshman Sindre Rambjor finished three strokes back in 61st overall individual standings with a score of 236.

The final Montevallo golfer to compete on the weekend was sophomore Austin Murphey, who finished tied for 67th overall in individual standings with a score of 240 strokes.

Montevallo finished 13th overall in a field of 14 teams. The University of West Florida won the tournament after shooting just 10-over par as a team.
