The Thompson High School baseball team defeated Hewitt-Trussville 11-3 in its opening game of the Birmingham Metro tournament March 3.

The Warriors (5-4) scored three runs in the first inning and three runs in the second inning against the Huskies.

Taylor Bria led Thompson at the plate as he finished 2-for-2 with two doubles and an RBI.

Jonathan Keller went 2-for-2 and drove in two runs. Chad Collum finished 2-for-4 with a triple and a double. Collum also drove in a run. Matt Haskins went 2-for-4 in the victory.

Aron McRee picked up the win on the mound after giving up three runs, including two earned runs, on four hits with five strikeouts and two walks in six innings.

Gus Williford struck out the side in the bottom of the seventh inning to preserve the victory.
