Linda Lee Grimm Braid

Linda Lee Grimm Braid went home to be with the Lord on March 3, 2011, after a courageous six-year battle with a rare breast cancer that spread throughout her system. Linda Lee and her twin sister, Linda Mae Grimm, were born in Page County Hospital, Luray, Va. on March 5, 1940. Linda Mae died at birth. Mrs. Braid lived in Harford County, Md. for 37 years after her family moved from Luray when she was 3 years old. She attended grades one through 12 in Harford County, graduating from Bel Air High School in 1958. She was called the beat of the BAHS band, playing bass drum in concert season and cymbals during football season. Upon graduation, she worked at Edgewood Arsenal, MD (now part of Aberdeen Proving Ground) for 14 years, having met her husband when he was stationed there. They were married on Jan. 22, 1972, in Bel Air, and moved to Auburn, where he went to graduate school for five years. Upon his graduation, they moved to Montevallo, where he taught biology for 25 years.

Linda Lee’s parents, Alma Clementine Grimm and Thomas Jennings Grimm, preceded her in death, as did half-sisters Martha Jean, Marjorie Ellen and Mary Louise; her father-in-law Col. Robert Braid Sr. and his parents; her mother-in-law’s parents; and her aunts and uncles Tillie and Bill Kaiser, Claudia and Albert Kaiser and uncle Otto Andreas.

She is survived by the love of her life, husband Dr. Malcolm Braid, a great caregiver for all the years she had cancer; her three precious shelter dogs Molly Skye, Kenny and Shelby Doll, which provided her therapy; brother-in-law, Dr. Robert Braid, Jr. (Pattie); mother-in-law, Elva Dawn Braid; niece, Emily Braid and family; nephew, Bobby Braid and family; cousins, Albert Kaiser (Fausta) and family and Jim Grimm (Pat); and aunt, Rubina Andreas.

Her husband Mac introduced her to Auburn where she fell in love with the town and Auburn football. Mrs. Braid worked for two chiropractors for 11 years and as a substitute secretary for chiropractor Dr. Mike Miller in Montevallo until bad health. She was a member of the Montevallo Evening Garden Club and University Baptist Church, Montevallo, since 1979, coordinating and delivering Meals-on-Wheels Thursday lunches for the latter for about 30 years. Sweet and outgoing, she loved meeting all the senior citizens and making many friends.

Visitation will be held Sunday, March 6, 2011, from 6-8 p.m. at Rockco Funeral Home Chapel in Montevallo. Funeral service will be held Monday, March 7, 2011, at University Baptist Church at 1:30 p.m. with burial to follow at Alabama National Cemetery. She will lie in-state 30 minutes prior to the service.
