Wildcats top rival Calera

The Shelby County High School baseball team defeated rival Calera 12-8 in high school baseball action March 4.

Evan McNeal led the Wildcats at the plate as he finished 2-for-4 with two RBIs.

Mike Pate went 2-for-4 and drove in one run. Bailey Benton finished 1-for-3 and drove in two runs. Dakota Falkner went 1-for-3 and drove in two runs.

Benton kept the Eagles at bay on the mound for the first five innings to pick up the win. Falkner finished the game in the final two innings.

Lance Green led Calera at the plate as he finished 1-for-3 and drove in three runs. Jeremy Hyde went 2-for-3.

Stetson Cupp took the loss on the mound.

Shelby County (1-2) started off with a bang and led the eagles 9-0 at the end of the fifth inning.

The Eagles didn’t give up on the rainy night and rallied with six runs in the top of the sixth inning to cut the deficit to 9-6. The Wildcats added three runs in the bottom of the sixth to take a 12-6 lead heading into the seventh inning.

Calera responded with two runs in the seventh inning as the rain began to intensify, but the Wildcats held on for the win.
