Thompson sweeps doubleheader in Metro tournament

The Thompson High School baseball team defeated Hoover and Vestavia Hills in a doubleheader March 7 to advance to the Birmingham Metro tournament semifinals.

The Warriors defeated Hoover 3-1 in their opening game March 7. Thompson scored all three runs in the top of the fifth innings.

Skylar Estell led Thompson (7-5) at the plate as he finished 2-for-3 with an RBI.

Aaron McRee picked up the win on the mound after giving up one earned run on five hits with three strikeouts and two walks in a complete game.

Thompson defeated Vestavia Hills 8-5 in the nightcap.

Conner Gill led the Warriors at the plate as he went 2-for-3 and drove in three runs.

Tyler Gamble finished 1-for-1 and drove in a run.

Mason Morris picked up the win on the mound after giving up four earned runs on five hits with three strikeouts and six walks in five innings. Jake Hester pitched the final two innings and earned the save.
