The Chelsea High School boys’ soccer team notched its second region win March 8 with a 10-0 victory at Chilton County.

In the process, Chelsea midfielder Ashley Page became the school’s all-time leading goal scorer, surpassing Chris Brennan’s mark of 73 goals.

It only took the Hornets (5-4-1) three minutes to jump on top of the Chilton County, when Travis Mitchell got free inside the box and punched the ball into the corner of the net. Several minutes later, Mitchell sent a corner kick into the box, and defender Tyler Smitherman who had pushed forward, touched the ball into the bottom right corner of the goal, and Chelsea took and early 2-0 lead.

About midway through the half, Page began his final push to history when he received a cross in the box and he knocked home the school record tying 73rd career goal. Only a few minutes later, Page would have the record outright. Chelsea forward Will Bevill was fouled in the box, and Page put the ensuing penalty kick into the right side of the net to set the new school record of 74 career goals. The Hornets led 4-0 at the half.

The second half was dominated by Chelsea as they went on to win 10-0. Page finished the night with three goals, Dakota Dresbach had two, Bevill, Mitchell, Smitherman, Eric King, and Shelton Smith each had one, while keepers Josh Carpenter and Trent Tinsley split the shutout in goal.
