Evangel sweeps doubleheader with New Life Christian

The Evangel Christian School baseball team swept a doubleheader March 8 with New Life Christian.

The Lightning (4-2) defeated New Life 9-7 in the opener.

Brandon Mackey led Evangel Christian at the plate as he finished 2-for-5 with two doubles. Mackey drove in two runs and scored a run.

Andrew Thompson finished 2-for-3 with two RBIs and two runs scored. Thomas Milstead went 1-for-4 and drove in two runs. Peter Lau finished 1-for-4 with a double and scored a run.

Daniel Ellis finished 1-for-4 and drove in a run. Hayden Brown went 1-for-3 with a double, drove in a run and scored a run. Roecker Melick finished 1-for-4, drove in a run and scored in a run.

Ben Albright picked up the win on the mound after giving up five earned runs on six hits with seven strikeouts and two walks in 4 1/3 innings.

Evangel Christian defeated New Life 7-2 in the nightcap.

Milstead led the Lightning at the plate as he finished 2-for-4 with a double. Milstead drove in a run and scored two runs.

Mackey went 2-for-4, drove in two runs and scored a run. Josh Letson finished 1-for-2 and drove in a run. Daniel Ellis finished 1-for-1 and scored a run. Nate Scott went 1-for-4, drove in two runs and scored a run.

Albright finished 1-for-1 with a triple and scored a run. Lau, Zac Shackleford and Aaron Clayton scored one run each.

Scott picked up the win on the mound after allowing one earned run on two hits with two strikeouts and a walk in two innings.
