Montevallo softball tops rival Calera

The Montevallo High School softball team defeated rival Calera 10-5 in high school softball action March 8.

The Bulldogs scored five runs in the first inning to take a lead they would not surrender in the win over Calera.

Savannah Upton and Bekah Fowler delivered RBI doubles in the opening frame, while Mallory Anderson added a two-run homer in the second inning to extend the lead to 7-1.

Upton, Savannah Smith, and Fowler each hit singles in a three-run fifth to close out the scoring for the Bulldogs.

Smith went 3-for-3 at the plate for Montevallo, while Upton and Fowler each finished with a pair of hits. Upton also pitched a complete game, surrendering just five hits and one earned run while striking out five.

Calera was led at the plate by Brittany Files, who went 2-for-4.
